WINDSHIELD CAMERA

Auto Glass Technology Is Rapidly Changing

Technology is constantly changing, and windshields are no exception. They are no longer just a piece of glass. Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) in vehicles is becoming increasingly popular. These systems rely upon cameras, radar, and lasers – often with the camera mounting to the windshield. Any time a new windshield is installed, the camera must be calibrated to ensure proper functionality and to restore the camera to OEM specifications.

What is ADAS?

ADAS stands for Advanced Driver Assistance System. It is a rapidly growing new technology that includes systems to help the driver while driving. When designed with a safe human-machine interface they should increase car safety and more generally, road safety. Some ADAS features include:

  • Lane Departure Warning

  • Lane Keep Assist

  • Forward Collision Alert

  • Adaptive Cruise Control

  • Automatic Emergency Braking

  • Blind Spot Monitoring

  • Plus others

How long does ADAS Calibration take?

TIME

The dynamic calibration process typically takes about 1-1.5 hours. It can sometimes be completed during the same visit as your windshield replacement if you arrange for us to coordinate with your Auto Glass Installer.  Master Auto Calibrations, LLC uses a process called Dynamic calibration, which requires the technician to drive the vehicle to calibrate the camera. The technician needs to wait for the replaced windshield to set before the calibration process can begin and the vehicle driven. Dynamic calibration will require roads be clear of snow or rain for accuracy.  Some makes of vehicles may need a Static calibration which will require your vehicle to be in our shop for about 2 hours.   Static calibrations also require a road test.
